Hair Transplant Options

When considering changing your confidence forever, with our hair growth therapy you may be asking yourself ’What is the Hair Transplant Process?’ At FUE Clinics we specialise in two forms of hair growth surgery, whether you are suffering from female or male pattern baldness – yes, we specialise in hair transplants for women too.

Follicular Unit Transplant (FUT Hair Transplant Liverpool)
For a high standard hair, transplantation is the Follicular Unit Transplant FUT, in this hair restoration surgery involves the strip method. These hair implants are from a follicular unit dense strip of tissue which is removed from a patient’s scalp (usually the back/sides of the head), the individual hair grafts are then prepared using stereomicroscopy. One of the benefits of strip surgery is that greater amounts of hair follicles can be achieved over Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE), making this the more economical hair transplant procedure without a compromise on quality least of all results.
Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE Hair Transplant Liverpool)
One of the most innovative treatments in hair replacement therapy is the Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE). This method of extraction requires our skill hair transplant doctors removing hair follicles from a patient’s donor area (typically back/sides of the head) individually one at a time and implanting them into the bald/recipient areas, creating a full head of hair. The main benefit of carrying out this procedure is that it does not leave a singular linear hair transplant scar. The FUE hair transplant is also considered to be the least invasive hair transplant procedure.

What is the Difference between FUE and FUT?

The difference between FUE and FUT is that during FUT the surgeon removes an entire strip of donor skin from the back of the head and extracts the hair follicles from this strip. However, in FUE, the individual follicles are taken directly from the scalp. Whereas in FUT, the entire strip of the hair is harvested in one go and then dissected into individual follicles later. This leaves a very distinctive and noticeable lateral scar along the back of the head. During FUE, groups of between one and four hairs are individually extracted from the scalp and transplanted to the new area of the scalp, trying to mimic the pattern of the hair that used to grow there. This leaves little to no noticeable scarring on the scalp. When it comes to recovery time, there is also a noticeable difference between FUE and FUT. In FUE hair transplants, there is minimal bleeding, and recovery is usually complete within seven days. However, during FUT, as an entire strip of the scalp has been excised, it often takes weeks for the scars to heal over. The results of FUE hair transplants far outweigh the results of FUT hair transplants, leaving a high-quality, natural finish to the hair.

How does a hair transplant work?

A hair transplant will take the hair that you have and transfer it to an area where you don’t have any hair Typically it’s taken from the back of your head but can be taken from other parts of your body if necessary. Before starting a transplant, the surgeon will sterilise the area where the hair will be removed and then numb it with a local anaesthetic, you can also request sedation if needed so you will be asleep during the procedure. The surgeon will then perform the transplant, it can be a FUT or a FUE procedure.

Hair Transplant Surgery from FUE Clinics in Liverpool

Hair Transplant Recovery
FUT and FUE hair transplants can take up to several hours or days to complete, the timeframe all depends on the size of the procedure that the surgeon has provided. You’ll also be able to go home on the same day of the procedure. Once the surgery is completed, your surgeon will carefully remove your bandages and the area may be swollen so they may also inject triamcinolone into the area in order to keep the swelling down. After the transplant you may feel pain or soreness across surgical area and where your hair was taken from, so over the next few days your surgeon may recommend a number of medications including…
  • Pain medications, such as ibuprofen (Advil)
  • Antibiotics to prevent infections
  • Anti-inflammatories like oral steroids to relieve swelling
  • Medications include finasteride (Propecia) or minoxidil (Rogaine) to help stimulate hair growth.
After your hair transplant, your scalp may be sore, yet many people return to work several days after surgery. Don’t be alarmed as it is normal for transplanted hair to fall out two to three weeks after the procedure. This makes way for new hair growth. Most people will see some amount of new hair growth 8 to 12 months after surgery.
Hair Transplant Aftercare
After a hair transplant, it’s essential that you consider these aftercare tips…
  • Simply wait a couple of days before washing your hair, we’ll also recommend that you use mild shampoos for the first few weeks.
  • You should be able to return back to your daily life and work activities in 3 days.
  • It’s recommended that you don’t press a brush or comb down over the new grafts for around 3 weeks.
  • Don’t wear a hat or pullover shirt or jacket until you get the ok from your doctor.
  • We also recommend that you don’t exercise for around one week.
Hair Transplant Side Effects
  • Infections.
  • Crust or pus drainage around the surgical area.
  • Scalp pain, itching, swelling.
  • Inflammation of hair follicles.
  • Bleeding.
  • Losing sensation around the surgical area.
  • Visible areas of hair that don’t match the surrounding hair or are noticeably thinner.
  • Continuing to lose hair if your hair is still balding.
If you’re prescribed Minoxidil and Propecia, the side effects from this includes…
  • Irritated scalp
  • Dizziness
  • Chest pain
  • Headaches
  • Irregular heart rate
  • Hand, foot or breast swelling
  • Sexual dysfunction

Hair Transplant Cost

Hair transplant in Liverpool ‘costs’ is often the most asked question and one that everybody expects a simple answer. However when it comes to determining the price of a treatment like a hair transplant, this involves a number of variables that need to be taken into consideration. This can only be assessed at a professional consultation with one of our in-house trichological experts. FUE Clinics offers a way to price your treatment, fixed price treatments will focus on giving you an accurate account of your individual circumstances and pricing is competitive and fundamentally reflects our commitment to deliver you the result that you want. When it comes to the cost of a hair transplant in Liverpool at FUE Clinics, we’re the only clinic that operates a transparent fixed fee for surgery, no guesstimates and no ambiguous graft numbers. At FUE Clinics in Liverpool, we’re an ethical, honest clinic, we understand that a patient can only yield a fixed amount of hair from a single treatment without over-harvesting the donor site. You may be eligible for multiple treatment to maximise the total area treated or improve the current density, it’s important to be aware that your donor area is a limited resource and therefore the supply of hair to transplant is fixed. We have seen too many patients over the years who have been promised the impossible to just get what appears to be on the face of it, to be the ideal of a lifetime. You may have heard some expressions including ‘buy cheap, buy twice’ or ‘quality is appreciated long after the price is forgotten’ and a restorative hair transplant is no different. If you would like to understand more about hair restoration and the options available to you, don’t hesitate any longer, simply call FUE Clinics hair transplants in Liverpool today.
